Teen who died during day out at beach will be ‘sadly missed’
A teenager who died during a day out at a County Dublin beach on Sunday has been named locally as Abbie Carmody-Pepper from Ballymun.
The 15-year-old was visiting Burrow Beach with friends when she went missing after getting into the water for a swim.
Her body was recovered following a search operation involving the gardaí (Irish police), the Irish Coast Guard and Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) from Howth.
Gavin Pepper, a Dublin City councillor and relative of Abbie, said her parents "wish to thank everyone for their love and support at this difficult time".
"I was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Abbie Pepper in a tragic accident in Sutton yesterday.
"It was even more heartbreaking to find out we are related," he said.
He added that Abbie's family "now wish for privacy to grieve their daughter in peace".
Funeral director Rom Massey & Sons said Abbie will be "sadly missed by her heartbroken family... school pals, relatives, neighbours and friends."
